Compassionate Evidenced-Based Therapy for Anxiety & OCD

Are Anxiety and Worries preventing you from living your best life?

Do you find yourself constantly worrying and overthinking?

Are you living with a sense of dread or fear?

Do you have a constant sense of unease?

Are you exhausted from the alarm bells of fear going off?

Do small things cause you to spiral into panic mode?

Do you worry that you will never be able to manage anxiety’s hold on your life?

Are you prevented from being able to fully enjoy your life?

Would you describe yourself as a perfectionist ? Do you ruminate over small details? Do you find yourself unable to wind down or relax?  Instead of relaxing, do you worry about work, the next day or difficult social interactions?  Or do you constantly worry about your latest to-do list?  Do you find yourself worrying about worst case scenarios? Even though you know the “worst case” probably won’t happen, do you still feel driven to overthink and over plan?  Maybe your friends and family tell you to “just relax.”  But you find relaxing very difficult.

Anxiety makes life hard

Living with anxiety can certainly cause a wide range of physical symptoms.  You may be struggling with nausea or frequent muscle tension. Or you may be finding it difficult to get a good night's sleep.  These restless nights can lead to feelings of exhaustion during the day.  It may be that your anxiety is interfering with your current relationships, making it difficult to enjoy life.  Friends and family may have started to notice that you are detached or seem like you are not fully present.

Sometimes the physical feelings of anxiety can be so overwhelming that a person experiences a panic attack.  The symptoms of a panic attack include: pounding of the heart, sweating, dizziness, hyperventilating, and intense feelings of fear.  Anxiety can deplete joy from life and leave you feeling overwhelmed.  Therapy can help you learn how to manage your anxiety, while giving you the skills to actually overcome it and not let it take over your life!!

We ALL struggle with feelings of anxiety and fear

Even though you may feel like you are the only one who struggles with anxiety, the truth is that we all struggle with fear and anxiety to some degree. There can be multiple stressors in our lives such as global crises, family problems, work expectations, financial pressures, health concerns, social media, etc, which put our anxiety on high alert.   With so many stressors in our lives, why are we surprised that we often struggle with fear and worry?

Anxiety Keeps Us Stuck in Fear and Doubt

Even though there are plenty of options that can help us beat our anxiety, many of us keep tricking ourselves into settling for a life that is filled with anxiety and fear.  We may be avoiding getting help due to the stigma or we may feel like we can fix this on our own. We may rationalize that there are so many other people who have it so much worse than we do.

We inadvertently allow anxiety to take control of our lives and our decisions.   Anxiety is the most common mental health disorder in the US, and fortunately we have numerous treatment options.  Effective and personalized treatment options exist, and I am here to help. I am an anxiety therapist who specializes in treatment of anxiety concerns.   In anxiety treatment you can learn tools and develop skills that will help you effectively manage your most troubling symptoms, as you regain a sense of control in your life.

Working with an anxiety therapist gives you a chance to take control of your anxiety and finally feel at peace

It can be hard to reach out for help, but there is so much hope for you!  When you live with constant fear and worry, thinking about asking for help can feel overwhelming.  However, working with an Anxiety therapist can help you take a more objective view of your anxiety and the sources of your fears. From there I will  begin to tailor tools and skills specifically for your situation.  Working with an Anxiety therapist gives you the opportunity of taking control of your life. At Resilience Counseling I have specialized in the treatment of anxiety disorders for over a decade.  Together we can tailor an Evidence-Based Treatment designed specifically for you.

What can you expect when working with an Anxiety therapist?

Before you start anxiety treatment you will fill out paperwork that covers your background and your current concerns.  Your initial session will be directed towards getting to know you and your concerns, as well as building rapport.  During this time we will talk about the specifics of your anxiety and how it affects you.  During your therapy sessions you will likely find a deeper understanding of your anxiety.  With that you will find that worries start to dim and you will learn new ways of dealing with your fears.

Anxiety treatment that is tailored to your specific needs

We use a variety of evidenced based measures that will be individually selected to meet your treatment needs. These include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) -  Evidence-Based Therapy that targets negative thoughts, beliefs and patterns that feed your anxiety.

Mindfulness Skills - Learning ways to be more in the present moment and stay out of the future, which is problematic for anxiety.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) - Evidence-Based Behavioral Therapy that encourages you to gradually face your fears

EMDR- Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing - Evidenced based trauma therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT ) - an action-oriented treatment approach psychotherapy that has roots in behavior therapy.  You will learn that denying or avoiding the problems actually end up making things worse. We learn to tune in to our true values and work  towards accepting our difficult emotions, which then changes how we respond to the everyday challenges of life.

Maybe you're interested in therapy but still have a few questions…

“How long will treatment for my anxiety take?”

I want to get you the help that you deserve as quickly and effectively as possible.  As we tailor your individual treatment we will get a clearer estimate of how many sessions might be needed. I believe in an approach that is relatively quick, yet unhurried and at your own pace.   My goal is to give you the tools and skills that you need to help you along your way.

“Other people have it worse than me, so I might not need treatment for anxiety.”
As a therapist who specializes in anxiety, I believe we often invalidate ourselves by comparing ourselves to others.  If you are struggling with anxiety, I want you to know there is hope.  If you are feeling like anxiety is affecting your life, then you are probably more impacted by it than you think.  You deserve healing and to live life free from overwhelming anxiety.

“My anxiety will go away on its own.”

We often tell people if you could have fixed it yourself you already would have.  We always encourage clients to give therapy a try.  Why live life in a constant cycle of fear and worry?  We can work together to help you learn skills to overcome anxiety’s hold on your life.  Working with an anxiety therapist can help you learn to identify your concerns and to manage your symptoms, while providing you with lasting tools that will help keep your anxiety at bay.
